After the kids settled down and were in bed. We had booked an adjoining suite with a kitchen for our family and my sister and were pleased with the accommodations upon check-in. We travelled four hours from Massachusetts and arrived around 8pm (around bedtime for our 6 y/o, 4 y/o, and 20 month old). We were extremely disappointed by our experience and will not return to this hotel. Our family stayed at the Eastern Slope Inn last December for our Journey to the North Pole on the North Conway Railroad. The rooms are so dirty and dusty and customer service is awful. If you're looking for something cheap I guess this is the place to go. However, you have to reserve a spot for the hot tub and the latest you can go is 730. The hotel makes it seem like they have a spa area with a hot tub and sauna. The server was the nicest part about the experience because the host was horrible. We appreciate the free food but would rather pay a little extra for a nice meal that wasn't cold. The breakfast was definitely just heated up in a microwave. It wasn't until the second day that we noticed the sheet had a stain so we decided to look at the second bed to find a massive stain that was obviously there for a long time. When we got back to go to bed we just hopped in. Two pictures on the walls and a head board that was barely even painted. The man at the front desk acted like we knew how to get to the room because when we asked where it was he gave us a sarcastic response. We showed up at 2pm and asked if the room was ready to which we were given attitude like it was the craziest request, not to mention they have the latest check in time for a hotel (4pm). We had to change the dates due to a storm and they were accommodating. I miss you Cranmore □ I really hope whoever created this "lodge" can do a better job with the next one and make it actually functional.Ĭame here with my family for a weekend. I can only hope the other lodges to be constructed will be better, but seeing that monstrosity has zapped all my hope. This isn't the beautiful homely mountain I grew up on anymore. I feel downright depressed over it (along with many other locals). It looks like a run-down lodge from the 1970s even though it was just built. This new lodge is an uncreative shoebox that is already falling apart (the staircase is a complete disaster) and was covered in trash. The old lodge was pretty decent with a beautiful fireplace and overall functional, though tight on space. No joke, it is the worst ski lodge I've ever stepped foot in. I was absolutely thrilled to see the new lodge that promised to be absolutely beautiful. The new lodges to be built were hyped up for years and one of them was built after I moved away three years ago. This is a $10 ride.Ĭranmore used to be one of my favorite places on earth. It is not possible to look at all the old equipment that is there, in fact, you can't even get onto the platform anymore, until it is boarding time. The only simulation of the heyday of snow trains, is the boarding. Not worth the price, and I am a train fan. Impossible to hear the station announcement where we were waiting to board because of a load motor running on the train next to us. He was so busy talking the whole time I don't think he even looked outside.)Įverything is well run, and it 'ran' on time. (Our dome car had a prick telling the whole dome where he went fishing, the life history of his twin sons, and all the vacation trips they have done, etc. If you want to see some scenery, drive up Crawford Notch and you can control who you have to listen to on the way. You get a few views of rivers as you cross them. Took the snow train dome car ride from North Conway to Attitash. If you have kids, let the explore Zeb's across the street (more on that in a separate post) Arrive with time to spare as you may have to wait for a parking spot. If you buy tickets in advance online (recommended as they sell out), you still have to go in to the ticket office, show you paid, and get a physical ticket for the train (the conductor comes by to punch the tickets). Not so exciting for adults but a pleasant experience. The 55 minute ride is more than enough for kids. You can get out and watch them switch the engine if you want - its great if you have kids who love trains. But if you have people like we did who didn't want to switch, its nice to have the dome seats so you still get to see the views on the other side. When they switch engine sides, they say its a tradition to switch seat sides. They switch the engine sides after the first leg and then they head back. There is some commentary for the first half. I think its worth getting the dome seats - you get a panoramic view of everything.
